I agree I disagreeThis church dates back to the period between the 12th and 13th centuries when the original village of Pianezze, which at the turn of the year 1000 was located in the plain of Val Onari, was formed. The first mention of the church dates back to 1189 in a document concerning the Pedàola family.
The original medieval building was modest in size and was oriented, according to tradition, along the west-east axis, so its entrance faced Molvena. The small country chapel depended on the church of Santa Maria di Marostica and became an autonomous church under the rule of the Republic of Venice (15th century).
Between 1753 and 1754 the church was completely rebuilt. The restoration gave it the appearance it has today: the altar was moved to the west and the new façade was preceded by a spectacular multi-storey staircase. The large cypress trees that now flank it were planted in the early 20th century.
The last restoration was carried out between 1995 and 1999, when the side arches of the presbytery and the nave were opened.
The view from the churchyard is beautiful. The façade, divided by four pilasters supporting an entablature, is enclosed by a tympanum surmounted by three statues: in the centre S. Lorenzo, on the right S. Andrea and on the left an unidentified saint holding a scroll. The bell tower is square in shape up to the belfry. Above the octagonal tholobate there is a bulb-shaped cusp.
